European Centre for Historical Research

The Centro Europeo di Ricerche Storiche (European Centre for Historical Research) is a department of the Dragan European Foundation, located in Venice, in Calle Dragan. It has long been a reference point for historical research on Eastern Europe. In particular, the Centre has produced a number of research projects on specific and important periods of the history of modern Romania.

In July 1986 the Centre, through the personal coordination of Professor Iosif Costantin Dragan, achieved an important milestone in historical research with the publication, in several volumes, of Antonescu. Maresalul Romaniei şi Rasboaiele de reintregire, consisting of 2.400 pages of rigorous reconstructions and documentation of one of the most sensitive periods in the contemporary history of Romania.

This work throws light on a controversial period in Romania from 1940 to 1944 and gives an interpretation of it based on the most recent discoveries and documents, mostly unpublished. Besides the four volumes in Romanian, the Centre has published the book entitled Antonescu. Marshal and Ruler of Romania (1940-1944) for the international public. It has been widely circulated in academic circles both in Europe and the United States.
