Eastern Europe’s Tribune
|
To support and promote the European spirit and the yearning to unify Europe, Professor Iosif Constantin Dragan founded a monthly review in English, which was first issued in July 1954. It was entitled Eastern Europe’s Tribune with the subheading reading: A Monthly Review of Affairs relating to the “Other Half” of Europe. It is basically a monthly publication completely dedicated to Europe, in particular Central and Eastern Europe. The authors and editors were people in exile and noted personalities of Eastern European origin who, having succeeded in escaping from totalitarian regimes and reach the free world, gave continuity to Eastern European thought. The Tribune guaranteed everybody the utmost freedom of expression and proposed to lay the cultural foundations for cooperation among all nations located in the other half of Europe so they could become free of dictatorial regimes and achieve the spirit of freedom to reunify the whole European continent peacefully. In January 1956, the last year of publication, the Review modified its title slightly and became Eastern Europe’s Monitor, subheaded: Published by the Dragan Foundation. |
