Zborlu a nostru
Zborlu a nostru is a cultural Aromanian review aiming to protect the Aromanian language and culture. It was founded by Professor Vasile Barbă, its Chief Editor.
The review, which is supported and published by the Dragan European Foundation, was published quarterly on a continuous basis from 1984 to 2003. During those twenty odd years it has been a reference point for the entire Aromanian community in the world, particularly large in Germany and the United States. The Review’s newsroom was at the University of Fribourg and was printed in German and Aromanian alike.
The Aromanians are an extension of the Roman world in the Balkans, a true Latin community, and a sister of the Romanian community, which was separated from it about one thousand years ago by the settlement of Slav populations. The Aromanians were supported by Romania for a long time, but, after the Second World War, with the advent of Communism, this support stopped and they lost all rights to local autonomy. Until now it has been very difficult to regain that autonomy (in Greece, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia their schools were closed down).
In the context of the diaspora Zborlu a nostru has been one of the main instruments to organize and create cultural connections for Aromanians in the world.
